Ginglik Live Sessions will be showcasing some of the best live acts on the scene, early doors on Fridays and Saturdays to kick start your night out. Tonight we have a jazz tinged session with the stunning soulful singer Helena Jessie, Platonic Curry with their own take on jazz funk with flavourings of pop, soul, drum’n’bass, hip-hop, Irish traditional and swing plus a raw and heady mix of emotion, grit and passion from singer/songwriter John McIvor. Live music will be kicking off at 7.30pm and there’s 2 for 1 cocktails 7pm-10pm!

And now for another announcement. The Ben Donnelly Trio which has made a few appearances already is all set for the first of what is hoped to be a regular occurrance – playing at the White Hart pub in Whitechapel. Following the success of the Hot Orange Big Band‘s monthly gigs there, the demand has risen for more live jazz on Sundays and on the 30th October Ben will be performing there with Platonic Curry regulars Manolo Polidario (guitar) and Raffy Bushman (bass), playing a mix of standards and originals.

For those of you on Facebook, all you have to do is follow this link. For everyone else all you need to know is the White Hart is at 1, Mile End Road, E1 4TP and the nearest tube is Whitechapel.

Great food and drink served and there might even be some Spanish Football on the TV screens during the evening, as is typical on Sundays there.

It’ll be from 8:30pm – 10:30 pm.

As before it’s just £5 on the door and doors open at 7:30. The goodship is a piece of cake to get to with Brondesbury on the Overground and Kilburn on the Jubilee line within a few minutes walk. 289 Kilburn High Road, London NW6 7JR

As ever, at fine Camden venue Undersolo (20 Inverness Street, NW1 7HJ), with doors open from 7:30, a happy hour, food served and an open jam session  – BRING YOUR INSTRUMENTS  – we’ll be playing a set of our own original accessible jazz-funk from 9pm.

With entry only £4 (£3 concessions) and a half-price drink for all jam participants, this is a great night out for all jazz lovers and musicians.

We hope to be able to let you know about more gigs soon. Meanwhile we’re looking at plans to produce some more polished audio recordings and possibly video over the next few months.

We hope to make a return to the Spice again, and also the Jazz Market later this year if possible. Meanwhile enjoy the rest of your summer and watch out for updates on platoniccurry.com and in the newsletter (if you haven’t signed up yet, just look to your right).

However what could be the real highlight of the evening is the Open Mic session where guests will be encouraged to come up and sing with us. Just bring a couple of copies of the songs you want to perform (or get out the smart phone real book app). Good instrumentalists are encouraged to sit in too.

A word of warning however, here’s a quote from spice jazz’s own website regarding your choice of song: “please note, the following songs are banned: Misty, Cry Me a River, Stormy Weather and Summer-bloody-time.”
The Spice of Life is next to the Palace Theatre, Cambridge Circus, Soho. Nearest tubes are Tottenham Court Road and Leicester Square. Doors open from 7:30, entry £10 or £8 for students/MU members.

Our next performance is going to be a special one for us. We’re hosting the vocal jazz night at the Spice of Life in July. It will be our biggest gig yet by far and we cannot wait!

It’s an exciting and well liked music venue in Camden and we’re sharing the bill with some exciting and varied bands including Metro Paradiso, the Protails, the Resistants and ourselves promising an eclectic programme including rock, indie, and other alternative styles, in particular our own original and accessible take on vocal jazz-funk.

Our next scheduled appearance is at the Fiddlers Elbow in Camden on Friday 10th June. Meanwhile we hope to be able to announce further dates for the coming months.

Here are the details (if you are one of those clever people who signed up to our newsletter you’ll have already had them in an email by now. It’s never too late to sign up, just look to your right!)

There’s a Facebook page for the gig, whose line-up we’ll be sharing with some great jazz-funk and hip hop outfits: Junk Funk Collective, MootZoot and Cozy Mo. The live music is from 8-11 and then DJs will take over until 4am, so you really do get value out of the mere £5 entry. We expect to be playing at about 9:30.

Getting to the venue is easy enough. The venue address is 289 Kilburn High Road.  It is 1 minute to Brondesbury Overground, 5 minutes to Kilburn (Jubilee), 10 minutes to Kilburn High Road Overground and 15 minutes to Kilburn Park (Bakerloo).  Countless buses and nightbuses stop outside as well.

This will be our only appearance this month, and what with it being on Good Friday it’ll be a great way to kick start your long Easter weekend. We are really looking forward to it!
